The Council of UC Faculty Associations (CUCFA) and Faculty Associations at all ten campuses—together with AAUP, AFT International, UC-AFT, AFSCME Local 3299, UPTE CWA Local 9119, UAW 4811, California Nurses Association/National Nurses Union, and Teamsters Local 2010—have filed suit against the Trump administration’s illegal cuts.

Currently, the United States District Court is deliberating on a preliminary injunction that would require the government to follow long-established procedures when investigating alleged civil rights violations and to remove the coercive pressure created by the Trump administration’s extortionist demands.

We cannot stop now. The Trump administration demands go far beyond any claims of responding to antisemitism on campus, and include major changes in how our university is run, who gets to study and work here, and how Californians receive healthcare. Our employment conditions, healthcare access, the diversity of our community members, student speech, and academic freedom at the UC are under attack. In this context, UC President Milliken and the Board of Regents must immediately cease all negotiations with the Trump administration while the lawsuit is ongoing. They must also stop making changes to our university that go against our principles in the hope that such changes will placate the federal government.

What we need now is collective action. Contact UCOP and the Regents to ask them to stand up for the UC—to provide interim funding sources and to ensure that the UC is not complying with the Trump administration’s coercion.

When you click the "Send letter to UCOP" button, you will send the following email customized with your impact message to President Milliken and the UC Regents. You will also receive the content of the same email Cced to your email address for record-keeping.

Dear President Milliken and Board of Regents,

My name is YOUR NAME and I am [YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE UC; will auto-populate with title/rank supplied above] at UC YOUR CAMPUS. I am emailing you today to express in the strongest possible terms that the UC Regents and UC Office of the President must cease any negotiations with the Federal Government over the August 8th letter demanding a $1.2 billion dollar settlement from UCLA.

[YOUR IMPACT STATEMENT HERE]

The Trump Administration's demands have no legal basis and should be resisted in court, not negotiated behind closed doors. The Council of UC Faculty Associations (CUCFA) and Faculty Associations at all ten campuses—together with AAUP, AFT International, UC-AFT, AFSCME Local 3299, UPTE CWA Local 9119, UAW 4811, California Nurses Association/National Nurses Union, and Teamsters Local 2010—have filed suit against the Trump administration’s illegal cuts.

Right now, the United States District Court is deliberating on a preliminary injunction that would require the government to follow long-established procedures when investigating alleged civil rights violations and to remove the coercive pressure created by the Trump administration’s extortionist demands.

In this context, I urge UCOP and the Regents to immediately cease all negotiations with the Trump administration while the lawsuit is ongoing and to cease making unnecessary changes to the UC that go against our long-held commitments and values, such as the cancellation of the PPFP hiring incentive program. I support all legal efforts to fight back against the federal administration and reinstate suspended grant funding, as well as all efforts to find new sources for UC funding that allow us to preserve our independence from federal overreach.

Sincerely,

YOUR NAME
